Birthstones August | PERIDOT & SPINELL

In August, again two gemstones have their big appearance: the peridot and the spinel. For me, the work on the new Mini collection with these two monthly stones particularly exciting, because I was not only born in August, but also married a year ago in this month - so of course I was also personally interested in what special powers and properties are said to these two gemstones. Green peridot is one of the few gemstones that occur exclusively in a single color, and is often confused with emerald, which is similar in color but much darker. It is so old that it can be found in Egyptian jewelry dating back to the early 2nd millennium BC. It was also very popular with the ancient Romans and was known as the "Emerald of the Evening" because its brilliant green does not change even when exposed to artificial light, so its green beauty shines equally brightly at daytime and nighttime. Peridot is considered the "stone of friendship." It is said to promote a positive outlook on life - and keep love fresh among married couples. The second star of the month of August, the spinel, owes its name to the Greek word "spinos", which means "spark". And this stone can sparkle in a wide variety of colors, mostly red, pink, blue or violet. In its purest form, spinel is colorless, but such flawless specimens are very rare. In most cases, metals such as zinc, iron, or chrome are naturally mixed in with it in varying proportions, giving each individual stone its own unique hue and special sparkle. And it not only looks gorgeous, but is said to help achieve goals and facilitate change. It is said to boost self-confidence, courage and drive, making it the perfect gemstone for phases of life when major changes are on the horizon. Curious now?
