Birthstone January | GRANAT

Right at the beginning of the new year, the focus is on a birthstone that I love especially for its deep red color - garnet. Although it also exists in yellow, green and orange tones, it is most often found in the color red and today mostly comes from the USA, South Africa and Sri Lanka. It got its name because its red color reminds us of pomegranate seeds.

Traditionally, the garnet stands for construction and new beginnings, which fits wonderfully with the beginning of the new year. If you wear it, new doors should open and opportunities arise. It is supposed to motivate and help overcome crises by strengthening stamina and self-confidence when worn. Sounds good, right? Health-wise, it is said to have a healing effect on blood disorders, depression, fever and inflammation. It is also said to boost metabolism and strengthen the body's ability to regenerate. In my opinion, however, the most beautiful property attributed to garnet is that it is a symbol of true, deep friendships and strengthens them. This makes it a perfect gift for your best friend on her birthday - or just to show her how important she is to you.

By the way, due to its natural abrasive properties, garnet is also often used in sandpaper for sanding down wood - but for my mini-collection I rather decided to use the gemstone in its pure, polished form instead of using sandpaper to make scratchy necklaces ;)
