Our wedding | Getting Ready and the First Look

For us personally, 2017 was a year we will never forget. This is mainly because Fredrik and I met exactly ten years earlier and celebrated our wedding in August 2017 in the countryside in Belgium where I grew up. It may sound cliché, but it was undoubtedly the most incredible and beautiful day of our lives so far. Since a big part of our job is to help brides-to-be find the perfect bridal and headdress, we decided to share a few photos and memories from our own wedding with you here. Let's start with some impressions of the preparations on the wedding morning and the moment Fredrik and I saw each other in our wedding suits for the first time. A little warning beforehand, there are about to follow many photos with red, teary eyes - because it was a day full of emotions, love and happiness. And you can clearly see that in the photos. Getting Ready After breakfast with friends who were staying at the same hotel as us, Fredrik and I parted ways to get ready for the big day. And boom, that was the moment when the butterflies in our stomachs all abruptly took off. We had been looking forward to this day for so long, preparing for it for so long - and now it was suddenly here. JOHAN "Together with my sister and maid of honor Katrien, I went to our room to put on my wedding outfit. Despite all the emotions and butterflies in my stomach, I was super relaxed and at the same time incredibly excited for everything that was going to happen that day. After I finished getting dressed and deciding what bow tie I would wear, we took the opportunity to take a few more photos outside. Then while Fredrik was getting ready in our room, Katrien was styling and doing her hair and I was visiting our friends. Esther and Frédéric in the room next door, who could empathize exactly how we were feeling - after all, they themselves had gotten married exactly a year earlier." FREDRIK: "For about 45 minutes, I waited with my maid of honor Samantha in a separate room for Johan to finish styling and for us to use the room for my preparations and the accompanying photo shoot. Those relaxing 45 minutes are some of the most memorable moments of the day for me. We just had time to calmly think a few thoughts about the day and take a breath before it was all about afterwards. And although I wasn't a bit nervous, just excited, I really appreciated the small, very high quality and exclusive liquor Samantha gave me at that moment. In order to change rooms, we then had to cross a small garden and actually ran into Johan and Katrien in the process - but luckily our two maids of honor reacted in a flash and made sure that neither of us got to see the other. Samantha then helped me get dressed, even though there wasn't much for her to do except fasten the buttons on my shirt sleeves and attach my corsage. I think Samantha had a lot more effort putting on her own dress, doing her makeup, and doing her hair. All I had to do was add some wax and hairspray to my hair and voila, done! It's moments like that that make me pretty thankful to be a man." First Look FREDRIK: "Definitely one of the most exciting moments of the day. With my eyes closed, I walked up to my future husband, still completely unaware of how he would look in his suit, and got ready for the moment from which we would spend the rest of that momentous day side by side. We had the photos taken at that moment in the part of the venue where our families were staying, so I saw them all before I saw Johan - which only added to my excitement. However, our maids of honor were the only ones who then joined us for the first look photo shoot and we all had a blast doing it. Johan and I stood in front of each other and finally opened our eyes at a sign. So many emotions flowed through me at that moment, laughter, tears, pure happiness. Looking at the photos afterwards I don't think there are words to describe that moment perfectly, but the expression on my face speaks volumes for that." JOHAN: "We are so grateful that we took time for this very special moment on the morning of the wedding. It was indescribable, a moment full of emotions, butterflies in the stomach and feelings of happiness. When we looked into each other's eyes at that moment we knew that what we were about to do that day was the best idea of our lives." And because there is so much more to tell from our wedding day, Fredrik and I decided to turn it into a little mini-blog series to take you through it piece by piece.
