Birthstone May | SMARAGD

When it finally gets warmer again in May and the air smells like spring, I especially like to be outside. The first blossoms, the sun and the green of the trees simply put me in a good mood. No wonder I had so much fun working on our birthstone collection for the month of May, because the sparkling green emeralds beautifully reflect the rich green tones of the finally blossoming nature outside again.

The word "emerald" comes from the Latin "Smaragdus", which simply means "green stone". But this green stone is anything but simple, because it is one of the four most valuable gemstones in the world, along with the diamond, the ruby and the sapphire! Here, the darker and richer its green color, the more valuable it is. By the way, small cracks and inclusions are quite normal in emerald, if it does not have any, it is most likely a synthetically produced version.

The emerald is one of the four most valuable gemstones in the world, along with the diamond, ruby and sapphire!

Symbolically, this stone stands for hope and development, for looking forward, and it is supposed to give the wearer mental balance and clarity. But the emerald is also called the "stone of divine inspiration" - so please don't be surprised if you suddenly have flashes of inspiration or really good ideas while wearing one of our new pieces of jewelry. J

The oldest known emerald is about 2.97 trillion years old. I didn't use that one for our new designs, of course, but the stones I found for our current mini-collection are truly extraordinarily beautiful - and significantly less expensive than Elizabeth Taylor's emerald necklace, which sold for an incredible $6.5 million in 2011!

If you are now curious about what jewelry I have designed with the May birthstone, then you can here discover our new mini collection around the emerald. Feel free to write me how you like it! And if green isn't your color, you can look forward to variety in June, as several birthstones are assigned to this month, including the pearl and the moonstone. So if a desired design with one of these two gemstones dictates you, just send me a message with your ideas - I'll be happy to be inspired by you!
